Baustellenbesetzung gegen den Bau der Lobau-Autobahn

Since last Monday brave activists are blocking and occupying the construction of the Lobau-highway - a crazy dinosaur-modernist project (its original name was in fact "Reichsautobahn" and yes - it was first designed in this awful time) that seeks to build a highway through Vienna's only National park.

That this has to be stopped is of course no question - and so I invite everybody in and around Vienna to come to the climate camp, show our solidarity and occupy with us! The climate camp itself is actually really nice to hang out - you can find it at Anfanggasse 2 in 1220 Vienna.

On Thursday and Friday, 11-13h me and my friend Johannes Siegmund from Philosophy Unbound will hold little philosophical lectures on climate issues. I will talk about the Utopia of the car-free world (Friday), and Johannes about the relation of climate change, migration and racism (Thursday). Come bye and bring your tent - there is still a lot of space and the weather is nice!

Philosophy Unbound X Platz für Wien - this Friday, 18.9.2020 18-21h

I am very happy to announce that Philosophy Unbound will have it's first event since the Corona lock-downs. In collaboration with Platz für Wien (www.platzfuer.wien) we will investigate what many of witnessed during the Lock-Down period: how much nicer and calmer the urban public spaces can be if they aren't pestered with the catastrophic normality of auto-mobilized capitalism.

On Friday, the 18th of September, from 18h on we will occupy Vienna's Kettenbrückengasse and have many performative interventions and discussions going on.
Together with carless.earth I will also participate in a performative intervention on our utopia of the car-free planet.
And after 20h we will have an afterparty with the Critical Mass visiting us.

Drop by - we are very excited about this experiment!

carless.earth - Manifesto & next Philosophy Unbound Call online

Together with others, I have started a platform / initiative that wants to give a voice to the utopia of the car-free world. The carfree citiy can only be the first step towards a utopia (in the sense of "non-place") that radically gets rid of the exploitative, extractivist structures we call capitalism and that today wouldn't  be possible to maintain itself for a day without the car. A really green planet needs to be a carfree planet! Let's there to think the carless.earth!

--> carless.earth <--

The manifesto has also been published at Berliner Gazette - please get in contact if you want to join our utopian vision!

--------------------------------------------------

In a similar vein, the next - and first postcoronal - edition of Philosophy Unbound (#27) will be devoted to rethink and redo the public space. For this, we are joining forces with the initiative "Platz für Wien" to temporarily occupy a street in Vienna and perform and philosophize about other ways of making public than the modern, car-centered one!

Toxicity - Philosophy Unbound #26 happening this January in Chandigarh, India

Already one day after our wonderful Brussels-event, we are posting the next Call for Philosophy Unbound - this time on the other side of the world: in Chandigarh, India. For the second time it will happen on this magnificent sub-continent and this time we will focus on a topic that is especially virulent in the region: Toxicity.

Toxicity is also a topic which will occupy me personally in the next months, culminating in the processual exhibition "Toxic Temple" taking place in collaboration with Anna Lerchbaumer at AIL in Vienna in February (more information on that very soon). I will already give a performative lecture at Chitkara University about the conceptual thoughts behind the exhibition and will build some tentative installations made of garbage I found in field explorations in the lands of Pubjab.

The Call for PU#26 already gives you an idea of where we want to be going with the topic "Toxicity":

We live in toxic times. By using the concept of «Anthropocene», we try to make sense of our ecologically catastrophic condition of global warming, mass extinction, rising sea level, CO2 and acidification levels. Toxic pollutants such as sulfurdioxides, plastics and aerosols are marking more and more of our landscapes, which will take millennia to recover.

Toxicity has come to stay. The question at hand is if we, as humans, as mammals, as earthly critters, and who of us – since we are all differently vulnerable to these changes by virtue of our global positioning and socioeconomic status – will be able to stay as well, living under these increasingly toxic conditions.

To a certain degree, we will have to learn to live with Toxicity as a planetary condition for the next millennia. Of course we will have to reduce our toxic emissions as much as possible, but: Our soil is already depleted, our earth is already filled with millions of barrels of nuclear waste, our rivers are already spoiled, our landscapes are full of plasticides and our air has thickened.

The catastrophic times we live in call for the invention of lifestyles that cultivate Toxicity in new ways, in order to overcome it on the long run. This includes a re-thinking and decomposition of toxic gender roles and norms, pernicious global chains of production and exploitation, and poisonous politics of hate and segregation.

How to live within toxic lands and discourses? How to create a saner place within madness? How to minimize toxicity without becoming poisoned? How to decompose the status quo in order to create more sustainable relations of living and dying on this planet?

Disruptive Intervention at the Viennese Rathaus

As Philosophy Unbound we have been invited to creatively disrupt the normal ongoings of "Schwarzmarkt Wissen / Blackmarket Knowledge" having its 20th edition on "Rotes Wien / Red Vienna" on the 28th of September 2019 at the Viennese Rathaus.

To reflect the hidden presumptions and exclusions of (Habermas'ian) discourse ethics, we will investigate the corporeality of "rational" argumentation, how the skin of an argumentative opponent feels different to one you agree with, how a subject position any holder of an argument needs to acquire is subverted by bodily touch and ... cuddling. We are very much looking forward to invite you into our lustrous, fleshy and smelly underground cave behind the scenes and stages of Schwarzmarkt Wissen.

The full program folder can be found here & more information here.

Feel you at the Viennese Rathaus!

Philosophy Unbound #24 - MAKING KIN

I am very happy to announce that - as Philosophy Unbound - we will be organizing our second festival. After New Delhi last year, this time we will hold it in Vienna, the city were our collective first started from. The topic will be devoted to Donna Haraway's concept of MAKING KIN and it will take place at Schikaneder from 24th to 26th of May 2019.
Afterwards the festival will continue in the location of the other collective I am involved in: Stoffwechsel - Ecologies of Collaboration will perform a "thought collective"in the 4 days after the festival from 27th to 30th of May!

Make kin, not babies - this is Donna Haraway’s appeal in times of growing ecological and political devastation. Make kin in unhinged times! Philosophy Unbound invites you to think together about community, new commitments and alliances beyond the traditional forms of family, patriarchy and established institutions. Who may consider whom family and in what context? Who is allowed to declare solidarity with whom? To team up? To rely on one another? And who is actually “fix zam”?

In the radically new and catastrophic times which we’re trying to grasp with names like Anthropocene and Capitalocene, new forms of sharing the world, world-participation and response-ability are needed to enable the art of living and dying well for as many earthly critters as possible. How do we recollect ourselves on this poisoned, devastated, ruined planet? How do we want to imagine a common life and death beyond toxic norms? How can we create security and shelter beyond the biological family? How can queer ways of life reconcile us with the Chaosmos? How can newly created cooperations take a stand against resistance? And what happens if the newly established wants to dissolve again but can’t or isn’t allowed to?

Philosophy Unbound #22: Radical Cities

After a longer, creative pause, Philosophy Unbound is back in Vienna with it's 22nd Edition! We've used this almost one year long phase of Viennese hibernation to rework on our concept and make it more interactive and outgoing. I think, our next Edition on "Radical Cities" - in collaboration with engagée Magazine, will be a great step forward and I hope to see many of you there. (I myself will be involved twice with a city walk and a little Night Lecture about the StVO. See you on Friday!

Philosophy Unbound – DETEXT – New Delhi, 9th-10th of March 2018

- First more concrete informations on Philosophy Unbound: DETEXT are online! -

http://philosophyunbound.tumblr.com/

Philosophy Unbound is a collective devoted to opening up new forms and spaces for philosophy outside its classical habitats. After many successful events, workshops and performances in Vienna, Austria and Berlin, Germany, Philosophy Unbound will now investigate the possibilities of its format in New Delhi, India.

Philosophy Unbound organises a two day mini-festival for performance and philosophy at the School of Arts and Aesthetics (SAA) at JNU from 9th to 10th of March 2018. In line with this open format, the topic of March’s event is DETEXT. Our format is held very open and we encouraged everybody – be it students, artists or researchers of various fields to send us their proposals for this first interdisciplinary gathering of that kind. Since most of our institutions regard only textual output as “serious” contributions, we want to open a space to detext and give you freedom to express your ideas outside the mastermedium of text. Show us an installation without having to worry about an explanatory text, give us a lecture without all the necessary footnotes to a rigid canon, dance your philosophical ideals without having to open your mouth to utter complete phrases! The program includes installations, video-projections, performances, reading sessions, lectures and much more.

Philosophy Unbound: DE:TEXT will take place on 9th & 10th of March 2018, 10-21h at the School of Arts & Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University

Philosophy Unbound: Detext - a three day festival in Delhi, India

My last year's visit to India bore unexpectedly huge fruits: this year I will be organising a three day festival of philosophy unbound in Delhi in March. Find the Call below - I am so excited that this is becoming reality!

Call for Action

Philosophy Unbound – DETEXT – New Delhi, 8th-10th of March 2018

- हिंदी संस्करण नीचे -

Dear friends,

Philosophy Unbound is a collective devoted to opening up new forms and spaces for philosophy outside its classical habitats. After many successful events, workshops and performances in Vienna, Austria and Berlin, Germany, Philosophy Unbound will now investigate the possibilities of its format in New Delhi, India.
Philosophy Unbound will organise a three day mini-festival for performative philosophy at the School of Arts and Aesthetics (SAA) at JNU and other locations from 8th to 10th of March 2018. Our format is held very open and we encourage everybody – be it students, artists or researchers of various fields to send us their proposals for this first interdisciplinary gathering of that kind. Your can propose a text, a reading, a lecture, a performance, a musical contribution, an intervention, an installation, a sit-in, a dance, a provocation or whatever else you deem necessary to get your philosophical point across.

In line with this open format, the topic of March’s event will be DETEXT.

The three days in March are devoted to opening up philosophy as well as the arts to a true plurality of form. We are very much looking forward to your contribution. If you have any further questions, more detailed proposals or the like, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

The Philosophy Unbound Collective invites you to submit proposals (including a short Bio and Letter Motivation) until 20th of February 2018.

Yours,
The Philosophy Unbound Collective

Love and Hate - Philosophy Unbound #15

Next Thursday, the 6th of April 2017, Philosophy Unbound will have its 15th edition with the title "Love and Hate"

Performances:

- Cléo Tabakian: tba
- Frieda Paris und Lukas Katzer: the    Ballade of _&_
- Georg Eckmayr: tba
- Jad al Mubaraki: BAGHDADI
- Nicole Sabella & Maria Christina Hilber: SPINNEFEIND
- Sonja Riegler und Antoine Quintard: Il faut danser l'amour.

How is our love organized? How do we canalize our feelings of hatred? And: What is love? In (queer-) feminist love relationships we free our desire and seek new forms of relationships. Are we driven by our emotions – do we control them ourselves? Or have the algorithms of Tinder and the social media taken over that task a long time ago? When we like and confirm things, we glide through emotional capitalism that is sparked by longings and emotions without any resistance. Who profits from our emotions? Who deserves our emotions?
Lustful/boring has become our guideline. Love and hatred are lustful, whereas we consider the overtones, that do not directly stimulate us, to be boring.

Doors: 19h
Start: 20h

Afterparty at Celeste (free donations)
music:
- Soundküche (Graz/Wien)
- Luca b2b Windom (Mellow Heat, Wien)

Entry: Free Donation - Suggestion 5€ (we are a No-Budget Organisation: everything will go to the performers)
