I am very happy to be able to present the more radical aspects of commoning in contemporary political practice at the "Valley of the Commons" meeting taking place this year close to my hometown Vienna in the Austrian Alps. I'll show the movie of my friends and comrades of the Pirates de Lentillières on the night of the 31.8 and will give a lecture on the subsequent morning. Une Île et une nuit

How can we think productively about escaping the ecocidal, capitalist system? In the film, both refugees from sub-Saharan Africa or former office workers from major European cities have their reasons for breaking away from this destructive system and building a new, queer life together with a positive relationship to the environment. 

The film “Une île et une nuit” by the Pirates de Lentillières is a unique document about the French radical scene centered around the “Zads” (zones à défendre) and the joy of fighting for a better life amid climate collapse. Shot in eleven languages without subtitles, the film enabled every participant to tell and bring to life their own personal story. The result is a surreal, at times almost childishly funny pirate epic about the struggle against corporate giants and for the preservation of land, which captivates every viewer in a somatic, pre-linguistic way. The film was created collectively—without hierarchies or direction—as part of the assemblies regularly held at the ZAD of the Quartier Libre de Lentillières in Dijon, and in both its style and subject matter, it serves as a living testament to how much more culture, joy, and empowerment can emerge through commoning. Shot on 16mm film despite having no budget, the film impressively demonstrates that culture flourishes much more vibrantly beyond capitalist appropriation and can organically become part of the collective struggle for (survival).

On the following day, Kilian Jörg will share theories, experiences and practices from contemporary radical struggles around commons. They will talk about various strategies of reclaiming the common, from the Zapatistas to Galicia en Comun, from the Zads in France to the Swiss Aufstände der Allemende. In this workshop, questions of belonging, indigeneity, tradition, struggle and resistance will be raised and we will together draw a map of possible survivance through a pluralistic patchwork of various commoning strategies coming together and fighting for a landing of our economies and life-styles on the earth we live on.

Posthuman Social Club #7 goes We Are Founding A City 27.+28.8.2026, Zukunftshof Wien

I am delighted to announce that we are doing the 7th edition of the Posthuman Social Club as part of the We Are Founding A Cty Festival at Zukunftshof Vienna. I will be guiding various collective hallucinations about the posthuman urban future, will build a shrine to the local roadkill with Sabrina Rosina and instruct an early morning dawn cloud reading session together with Samuel Toto Perez. I am looking forward to the fun! 

Die siebente Ausgabe des Post-Human Social Club folgt dem Festival WE ARE FOUNDING A CITY hinaus an den Zukunftshof, um die Zukunft der Stadt aus einer mehr-als-menschlichen Perspektive zu betrachten: Über wessen Zukunft und wessen Stadt reden wir eigentlich? Und wer ist »we«, das hier eine Stadt gründet? Schließt es auch die Ameisen, Ratten und Kakerlaken ein, die unsere Unterwelt zusammenhalten? Die Tauben und Raben, die auf unsere menschliche, allzu menschliche Ordnung in höchst kreativer Weise scheißen?

Über den Gründungsmoment einer Stadt lässt sich nur spekulieren, denn sie wird seit Jahrtausenden ko-kreiert: War es, als die ersten Pflanzen Photosynthese betrieben oder die ersten Würmer den Boden aufbereiteten? Oder doch erst, als die Algen des Mesozoikums langsam zu Erdöl gepresst wurden oder als uns der Weizen domestiziert hat?
Wir wollen das Denken, Fühlen und Handeln über die Stadt multisensorisch erweitern. Über welche baulichen Innovationen spricht man in den Kaninchenbauten? Welche atmosphärischen Strömungen lesen die Schwalben? Sind die Wespennester gewappnet für den kommenden Super-El Niño, und haben sich die Füchse schon ein Winterfell für das Erliegen des Golfstroms wachsen lassen?
Performances, Konzerte, partizipative Installationen, kollektive Halluzinationen einer nicht-mehr-menschlichen Zukunft, das Lesen der Wolkenformen und das Einatmen der Verwesungsdüfte des Roadkills werden zu Praktiken, um eine Stadt jenseits menschlicher Vorstellungshorizonte zu träumen. 

 

Wir beginnen donnerstags, spielen freitags weiter und das so lange bis samstags die Sonne aufgeht.

Ermächtigende Räume und Gefühle in Zeiten des Klimakollaps schaffen

Klimakollaps, Polykrise, systemisches Versagen, ökologische Katastrophe – die Namen für den desaströsen Zustand unserer Gesellschaft sind vielfältig, doch die aktivistischen Umgangsstrategien sind noch wenig ausgereift. Zwar macht sich die Einsicht breit, dass appellative, an die Vernunft der Menschen und „der Politik“ gerichtete Aktionsformen wenig bringen, doch noch haben wenige Alternativen jenseits von Alarmismus und Rückzug ins „solidarische“ Preppen Einzug in unsere Praxis gefunden.

Inspiriert von Climate Emotions Studies, Psychoanalyse, ökologischer Philosophie, radikalem Aktivismus und „dunklem Sozialismus‟ will dieser Workshop dazu einladen, gemeinsam über das Erschaffen von positiven und ermächtigenden Gefühlen als aktivistische und kulturelle Arbeit im Klimakollaps nachzudenken.

Ausgehend von Beispielen wie der Bewegung der ZADs in Frankreich, Initiativen zu „ökologischen Feiertagen“ oder der Errichtung neuer Rituale zum Umgang mit Gefühlen in der Klimakrise wollen wir dazu einladen, aus der radikal-ökologischen Perspektive konstruktive Beiträge für eine linke Vision des Abstiegs des Westens und einer dem Kollaps entgegentretenden Gesellschaftstransformation zu suchen.
