"Auto-Destruction" book tour in Marseille and Paris

I am doing a little book tour through France to present the French translation named "Auto-Destruction" by Edition Wildproject. I will be in Paris on the 16th and the 24th of September, and in Marseille on the 19th. 

• On the 16th at the Forum Vie Mobiles with the important question "Se deplacer sans voiture dans le territoires de demain" I will not speak, but have a little book stand and will be glad to chat with you. 
• On the 19th I will present the book at the Librairie Transit in Marseille (click for all the info. 
• And finally, on the 24th, I will present the book at Librairie Le Delta in Paris.

Mobilitäts.Wende.Kongress @ Munich, 14.9

Every ear the IAA, Europe's biggest auto-mobility fair and main propaganda tool of the German car lobby, is taking place. Since the protests got too heavy in Frankfurt a couple of years ago, they have moved to the calmer waters of Munich. So let's heat up Munich and show them that we are ready for a better and more inclusive world of mobility and willing to fight the strangle hold that the German car lobby not only has on Germany, but on Europe. By now even rather conservative economists are of the opinion that the German car industries massive influence on the nation and the EU is wrecking their future prosperity and thriving.

On the 14th of September I will be involved in various ways at the Anti-IAA-summit, including a talk, a panel with the artists Folke Köbberling, whose work in Munich's public space I admire a lot. Here is the time table:

Highway? To hell! - First coalition project statement

Change is in the air but our mainstream politics and economies seem to blissfully neglect that fact by trying to forcefully maintain a status quo that will surely lead us into ecological catastrophe. 

The coalition Highway? To Hell! seeks to alter this autodestructive course focusing on a main artery of old and catastrophic ways of making economy and politics: highways.

How can it be that – although many European economies and populations are factually shrinking for years – we keep building new highways in an almost compulsive manner?

The coalition Highway? To hell! wants to show that the majority of European people see further than their leaders think: by connecting the almost uncountable local resistance movements against new street building, we want to build a network to create visibility for the need to change course. 

After the role-model of the successful French coalition La Déroute de Routes, the coalition wants to map all local struggles, thereby creating a means of exchange of knowledges, experiences and activists.

Furthermore, we want to unite the coalition with a common demand we will fight for on an european level : a discontinuation for new street infrastructure. 

We also want to reclaim a non-motorised way to use the streets. The underlying motivation is that we should work on ideas and visions of the good life that are no longer ecologically catastrophic – in that they for example require hugely destructive fossil car infrastructure all over the continent in order to work. Another, better life is possible beyond a car-centric understanding of Europe.

Together with Herbert Justnik and Jaskaran Singh I have curated the final day of the Microfestival "Through the Dark - Living in Authoritarian Times" which will take place on the 13.9 at the Volkskundemuseum Vienna. We have put together a day rave that includes lectures, performances, installations, concerts, DJ Sets, body workshops, cooking and a final film screening. Ein Tagesrave zur Überschreitung der Gegenwart

Niemand liebt die herrschende Ordnung, aber jedem* erscheint sie ausweglos. Tatsächlich sind spätestens seit dem Fall der Sowjetunion die großen utopischen Alternativwelten unglaubwürdig geworden. Die Menschen werden immer anfälliger für die einfachen Heilsversprechen des Autoritarismus.

An seinem letzten Tag untersucht die Reihe der Mikrofestivals Through the Dark einen anderen Weg, diesem alternativlosen “capitalist realism” (Mark Fischer) zu entgehen: eine politische Strategie der Durchlöcherung des Status Quo, die nicht mehr an die eine, homogene bessere Welt glaubt, sondern vielmehr eine Pluralität von in sich unterschiedlichen und vielleicht sogar widersprüchlichen Gegenentwürfen. Sie werden so in eine queere Solidarität zueinander bewegt, dass eine Diversität an anderen Welten durch die spätkapitalistische Monotonie hindurchscheinen kann.
Um dieser Patchwork-Utopie nachzufühlen, werden die Pirates de Lentillières ihren Film “Une ile et une nuit” über ihre besetzte Zone in Dijon zeigen, Simon Nagy über die Abschaffung der Zeit und Kilian Jörg über dieses politische Programm einer “Durchlöcherung des Status Quo” diskutieren. Im Situation Room sammeln wir Strategien, die schon erfolgreich den Schritt über die Gegenwart hinaus gewagt haben. Das künstlerische Forschungsprojekt The ZoNE (die Künstler*innen Marcus Neustetter, Bronwyn Lace, der Philosoph Johannes Jäger sowie weitere Expert*innen) untersucht traditionelles Liedgut aus der Steiermark, Wien und Südafrika und gestaltet Möglichkeiten einer pluralen Zukunft. Doch dieser am Otto Wagner Areal aufkommende “utopische Wärmestrom” (Ernst Bloch) beschränkt sich nicht bloß auf unsere Köpfe, sondern soll unsere gesamte kollektive Körperlichkeit auf einen Trip in diese Zukunftsmöglichkeiten nehmen. Wir werden einen Tag lang von Jaskaran Anand Singh durch ein Rave geleitet, bei dem sich die diskursiven Inhalte nahtlos in den ekstatischen Traum (en. “rave”) eines neuen commons verweben.

SPIRAL BIKE car is over - 6th of September, Vienna

I am thrilled to finally also be actively participating in Conny Zenk's wonderful public space bike interventions and concerts! It will take place on the 6th of September and will again be a wonderful combination of concerts, DJs-Sets, bike rides and public space interventions. I will participate in a twofold way: 1) I will read from a chapter of my book "Das Auto und die ökologische Katastrophe" (the one about the car pest ending the car pest) and 2), together with wonderful Sabrina Rosina, we will do our infamous "LETZTE WASCHUNG", gently washing away the cars from the public space with a solemn good bye prayer. Soundrides & feministische Mobilitätsutopien in Wien

Die Stadt Wien wird 2025 zur Bühne für eine Performance, die Fahrräder, Klangkunst und Aktivismus im urbanen Raum verbindet. SPIRAL BIKE car is over verwandelt Brückenrampen, Radspiralen und Verkehrsachsen in temporäre Orte für Konzerte, Performances und Diskussionen über die Zukunft der Mobilität.

Mit SPIRAL BIKE car is over ruft RAD Performance erneut zu autofreien Utopien auf. Wie Kilian Jörg in seinem Buch Das Auto und die ökologische Katastrophe schreibt: „Die amerikanische Freiheit und ihr konsumorientiertes Demokratiemodell stabilisiert sich seit 1945 durch einen exzessiven Erdölverbrauch. … Wie Pilger*innen strömten die Bürger*innen zur Autobahn und feierten die dort spezifisch ermöglichte Freiheit, Öl zu verbrennen.“

In diesem Sinne setzt Kreishell mit pedalbetriebenem Karussell und mechanischem Drum-Computer ein unermüdliches musikalisches Kreisen gegen den Hunger der industriellen Leistungsmaschine – verstärkt durch Jakob Schauers’ hyperreale Räume. Maja Osojnik erweitert den Resonanzraum mit dichten, vielschichtigen Liedern und Texturen, die Brüche und Utopien zugleich hörbar machen. Mit Stimme, Klang und Mehrdeutigkeiten formen Lan Rex & Oneka von Schrader eine Performance aus Bewegung und Soundbikes.

Bike Tattoos von Martina Moro & Conni Feitsinger schaffen eine performative Geste zwischen Körper und Fahrrad. SPIRAL BIKE car is over startet mit einem Soundride von der Prater Hauptallee. Live am Soundbike zu hören sind VVV & Ratriot, die dazu einladen, urbane Infrastruktur neu zu erfahren und mit tragbaren Sprüchen Impulse für eine postfossile Zukunft geben.
